Recipe Tin Privacy Policy
Effective 3 October 2026
Recipe Tin saves recipes from web pages onto your phone. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no servers of its own. The developer does not collect, receive or store any of your data.
At a glance
- Collected by the developer: nothing. There is no developer server to send data to.
- Kept on your phone only: your saved recipes, notes, star ratings, photos of your own cooking, your chosen colour theme, whether you bought the unlock, and how many free saves you have used.
- Websites you save from: the app requests the page you share, so that site sees an ordinary web request from your device (including your IP address). Its own privacy policy applies.
- Google Play: processes the optional one-time purchase and tells the app whether it was bought. Google's Privacy Policy applies.
- Google and Android backup: only if you have backup turned on in your phone's settings.
- Not shared with: advertisers, analytics or crash-reporting services, data brokers, or any other party. The app contains none of these.
What stays on your device
The recipes you save (name, ingredients, steps, times, servings, source link) and their photos are stored only in Recipe Tin's private storage on your phone. So are your notes, star ratings, photos of your own cooking, your colour theme, your purchase status and a count of the free saves you have used. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it, as does clearing the app's storage in Android settings. You can export your recipes to a file you choose at any time, using "Export backup". Deleting a recipe in the app removes it and its photos from your phone.
Camera, photos and timers
The only permissions Recipe Tin asks for are internet access (to download the pages you share) and the ability to hand a timer to your clock app. It asks for no camera, photo, location, contacts or microphone permission. To add a photo of a dish you made, it opens your phone's own camera or gallery app, and only the picture you choose is saved inside Recipe Tin. Tapping a time in a method, such as "25 minutes", hands a timer to your phone's clock app; nothing is sent anywhere.
Web pages you share
When you share or paste a link, Recipe Tin downloads that page (and its main photo) directly from the website, the same way your browser would. That website sees an ordinary request from your device, including your IP address, and its own privacy policy applies. If a site blocks automatic saving, Recipe Tin may load the page in a hidden built-in browser, and if you choose "Open it here" you see the page in that browser. In both cases the site's own scripts, ads and cookies run inside the app as they would in any browser, under that site's privacy policy. Recipe Tin sends nothing about you to any other party.
Purchases
The optional one-time unlock is sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment under the Google Privacy Policy. Recipe Tin receives only confirmation that the unlock was purchased, which it keeps on your device.
Android backup
If Android backup is turned on in your phone's settings, Android may include your saved recipes in your Google account backup. This is controlled by you and by Google, not by Recipe Tin. Only the recipe text, your notes and your star ratings are included; photos you take of your own cooking stay on this phone and are not backed up or exported. Recipe photos, your purchase status and anything websites stored in the built-in browser are also excluded from backup.
Children
Recipe Tin is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Questions: SmallHoursSoftware@proton.me. "Send feedback" in the app opens your own email app with this address, the app version and your phone model filled in; nothing is sent unless you send it, and emails are used only to reply.
